AWS for SaaS Companies in Colombia

Every new customer means one more copy of the system, nobody knows what it costs to serve each one, and the big customer asks how their data is kept apart. CloudTing designs a multi-tenant architecture on AWS where each customer is isolated, usage is metered automatically and cost per customer is in plain sight.

What we solve

  • Multi-tenant architecture: one system, with each customer's data isolated
  • Users and plans per customer, with usage limits on the API
  • Usage metering per customer, to charge by consumption or by plan
  • Cost per customer in plain sight, so you know which ones leave a margin
  • A dedicated encryption key for large customers who ask for one
  • Ready to sell on AWS Marketplace, which is open to Colombian sellers

Who it is for

  • SaaS companies that grew by installing one copy per customer
  • Products moving from licenses to usage-based pricing
  • SaaS sold to large companies that ask how their data is isolated
  • Teams that want to sell their product on AWS Marketplace

What your customers usually ask for

  • As a SaaS you are the processor of the personal data your customers upload, under Colombia's Law 1581 of 2012. The contract with each customer should state what you do with that data and how you protect it.
  • Large customers ask how their data is isolated from other customers. With this architecture the answer is concrete: every query carries the tenant and the database only returns that tenant's records.
  • AWS publishes its compliance reports (SOC, ISO) in AWS Artifact; what runs on top, your product, is yours to prove.

To sell on AWS Marketplace

  • Since November 2024, AWS Marketplace accepts sellers from Colombia: customers can buy your SaaS with their AWS account, which often already has an approved budget.
  • To charge by usage on Marketplace you have to report each customer's consumption. The metering shown in the diagram takes care of that.
  • If you are just starting, AWS Activate gives startups credits for the first stage.

What we do not do

We do not give legal advice or certify compliance. We put the technical controls in place and leave the evidence (logs, configurations, recovery tests) so your legal team, compliance officer or auditor can confirm what applies to you.

Reference architecture

A typical pattern for multi-tenant SaaS: CloudFront and AWS WAF in front, Cognito identifies the user and their tenant, API Gateway applies each plan's limits and Lambda runs the logic. Each tenant's data stays separated in DynamoDB and S3, every billable action emits an event to EventBridge, and a function meters usage for AWS Marketplace or your billing.

How we start

  1. 1Free review: we look at your product today, what each customer costs and where the risk is
  2. 2Report with the proposed multi-tenant architecture and a staged plan
  3. 3Customers migrated in groups, without stopping the service
  4. 4Usage metering and cost per customer up and running
  5. 5Help publishing on AWS Marketplace, if you want to sell there

Frequently asked questions

Does multi-tenant mean everyone shares the same database?

They share the system, but every record carries its tenant and the application only queries the records of whoever is signed in. Customers who require it can get their own database or encryption key, while you still maintain a single system.

Do we have to rewrite the product?

Rarely all at once. Usually customers are first moved to a single installation with separated data, and parts are then moved to managed services over time. We plan it in stages so the service never stops.

How do we sell on AWS Marketplace from Colombia?

AWS Marketplace has accepted sellers from Colombia since November 2024. You register as a seller, prepare the listing and, if you charge by usage, report each customer's consumption. We help with the technical side of the integration.

How do we know what each customer costs us?

We tag resources and meter usage per tenant, and Cost Explorer brings the two together. You see which customers leave a margin and which ones cost more than they pay.
